Avalokiteshvara is considered to be the embodiment of compassion. Avalokiteshvara can be depicted with 2, 4, 8, 12, 24, or 1000 arms. In each palm there is an eye, which represents Avalokiteshvara's omniscience. The eleven heads encompass the three worlds of demons, humans, and Buddhas. The heads represent the principle virtues, meant to conquer the eleven desires. In Tibet, His Holiness The Dalai Lama, is considered to be the emanation of Avalokitesěvara. It took Master Locho 2 years to paint this image.
