Buddha with female consort is a common symbol in the Himalayan art of Thangka paintings. In a way the "Yub- Yam" epresents the primordial union of wisdom and compassion.This is gracefully depicted as a male deity in union with his female consort. The male figure represents compassion and skillful means, while the female partner represents insight. In its iconography the female is seated on the male’s lap.
